How effective is Hypnosis within Cognitive Behavioural Therapy? 

The effectiveness of Hypnosis as an adjunct to Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy can be seen in an  meta-analysis of 18 studies, by Kirsch et al. in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology A meta-analysis is the the combining of data from several different research studies to gain a better overview of a topic than what was available in any single investigation.

These 18 studies looked at CBT in comparison with the same CBT therapy, but supplemented by Hypnosis. The results indicated that Hypnosis substantially enhanced treatment outcome. this was especially pronounced for the treatment of obesity, especially at long term follow up.
